The idea arose because of the current environmental questions in the valley and even more because there is far too little talk about ecology in Šoštanj, because a large portion of its inhabitants is somehow linked to the Mine/Thermal Power Plant connection.
On the night of 6 June 2011, a group of young people joined under the name Smehomat (with its leader Marko "Murč" Kumer) and its supporters put up an interesting installation in Šoštanj called "Air". Its purpose was to call attention of the municipality leaders in Šoštanj about the problem of air pollution and the building of the controversial block 6 of the Šoštanj thermal power plant. Murč requested a permit from the municipality but was refused one (the authorities wanted to move the event to fall so as not to "disturb the celebration of the municipality centennial"). The group decided to erect the installation in spite (and because) of it, in this version illegally.
Marko "Murč" Kumer:
"The idea arose because of the current environmental questions in the valley and even more because there is far too little talk about ecology in Šoštanj, because a large portion of its inhabitants is somehow linked to the Mine/Thermal Power Plant connection. The municipality refused to issue us a permit because of the "political incorrectness of the project", but we decided-out of a need to oppose the mindset about the situation in Šoštanj-to carry out the project all the same."
